Inline Comments in Blogger

Last night I tried my hands on Blogger inline comments. The main reason I planned to get inline comments is that I personally find it too disturbing to go back and forth between the post page and the comments page for commenting. And I think you must have felt the same a lot of times, so here's how to change your Blogger blog comments to inline comments.

Actually, it's pretty simple. All you need to do is to go to your Blogger dashboard, head over to the Settings tab and under Comments, you need to select Embedded below post in the Comment Form Placement section. Here's the catch, most of the time this method does not work for blogs which are heavily customized. Mine did not work too! So I tried a few tweaks here and there and finally it did work. Here's what you need to do.

Go over to your Blogger dashboard, head over to the Layout section. Under Edit HTML, first backup your existing template (in case anything goes wrong) by clicking on Download full Template. Then check the Expand Widget Templates box and search for this piece of code:

If you are using Firefox, which is what I always recommend, all you need to do is press Ctrl+F and search for the same. The full code would something like this:

<p class='comment-footer'> <a expr:href='data:post.addCommentUrl' expr:onclick='data:post.addCommentOnclick'>Post a Comment</a> </p>

Now replace it with the following codes in red:

<p class='comment-footer'><b:if cond='data:post.embedCommentForm'> <b:include data='post' name='comment-form'/> <b:else/><a expr:href='data:post.addCommentUrl' expr:onclick='data:post.addCommentOnclick'>Post a Comment</a></b:if> </p>

Note that the original code might look different depending on the template that you are using. And this would not appear at the CSS section, which also contains comment-footer by the way.

Save your template and that's it, you Blogger inline comment should be fully functional by now. In case you need any help, feel free to drop me a line.
