Where did you get them? Did you take all these photos? They are mind blowing. I had once come across a photo of the night sky which was taken with the shutter open all night! You could see the paths the stars had followed in that duration.

@Julia Scissor : No Mademoiselle, I am wise only with words, not with a camera. I collected them from various sources on the internet. Why don't you put up the photograph you mentioned on flickr and direct Constant Readers to it, it would be an added attraction for them :)

I love that second image. You have inspired me to take some river images with a slow shutter speed. Thank you so much for posting these images.

I love long exposures. I use it for wedding photography. Train station, waterfalls, evenings. It usually gives a really nice feel to a photograph.

Most photographers look for the fastest shutter speeds for sharp photos...using slower shutter speeds and a tripod can result in some unique and beautiful images too!

The depth of field is increased by the use of a slow shutter speed..Tripod is a must for slow shutter speed to avoid blurring n camera shake..the images are awesome...

Waterfall and street cars tends to be the most popular for slow shutter speed photography.
I prefer waterfalls as they look stunning at 1/5 second or slower.
